You can make smaller the phrase ‘make smaller’ by turning it into the word ‘smallen’.
We were recently sat at the Christmas table after dinner, about to play a board game (Sherlock Cluedo) when I suggested we ‘smallen’ the table down a bit by removing the middle section. My sister piped up, “Smallen is not a word. It should be ‘make smaller’”.
Sure, we can ‘shorten’ we can lengthen something, and even ‘Largen’ is a word (but more commonly people use ‘to enlarge’ something) so why not ‘smallen’ something?
