Germaine Greer, author of The Female Eunuch…

…man, now that’s a woman with a giant pair of bollocks.

Myself and Elisa were about to attend a music concert (Passenger) at Cardiff’s ‘Wales Millenium Centre’ when in hallways I saw Germaine Greer walking by. In a spontaneous moment, I reached, shook her hand and told her how much I respected and appreciated her. Taken aback, she told me she was “only popping to the loo.”

Why did I say what I said? Well, over the past 30 years I’ve seen her interviewed time and time again, giving a forthright opinion on ‘something of cultural importance’. It is this consistent display of who she is, despite any media pushback, that impresses me the most.

The phrase we opened with above, soon written after this encounter, is intended as neither a compliment nor an insult, but merely seeing a linguistic possibility – a conceptual collision created through the opportunity of the name of a book and how a person carries themselves in the world.
