Ok, so here is the thing…
What ‘process in mind’ did you use to fill in that gap? I mean, in order for you to get the joke (that adding a ‘W’ to the front of the word was amusing) you ‘did something’. – what was it?
If Elisa had said instead “I’d add a W to the front of that”, then there would not have been the same ‘internal work’ done. But seeing this process shows how your mind jumps about in order to deliver an answer, and also how ‘indirect’ (i.e. mentioning ‘tippex’) creates the opportunity for the gap in the first place.
